Activities and Therapies

We deliver our services through a fully integrated multi-professional and inter-disciplinary team approach, which draws upon the specialisations and strengths of our entire professional team. Our Team consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, support workers and an independent advocacy service.

Our Therapeutic Team provides a variety of specialist assessment and treatment services within a person centred framework, based on individual need and informed by a detailed individual clinical formulation. These include:

  • Occupational Therapy led detailed sensory profiling and sensory integration support.
  • Assessment of motor processing skills.
  • Ecological assessment.
  • Assessment and intervention for a wide range of daily living skills.
  • Speech and Language Therapy assessment and support for communication difficulties such as pragmatic/semantic disorder.
  • The use of a wide range of augmented and alternative communication strategies including objects of reference, pictorial communication aids and use of sign language etc.
  • Detailed Clinical Psychology assessment and treatment for a variety of clinical presentations. This includes comprehensive neuropsychological and psychometric assessment of intellectual and social functioning, memory, executive functioning and clinical symptomatology.
  • Comprehensive risk assessment and management support.
  • Clinical intervention for anxiety, anger and depression within a Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework, both delivered via group and individual sessions.
  • In addition, a CBT framework is used to provide treatment and support for those with a history of offending behaviour such as sexual offending, violence and aggression.
  • The application of detailed Applied Behavioural Analysis and Positive Behavioural Support for those with severe intellectual impairment or for those where a CBT based model maybe inappropriate.
  • These approaches are further supplemented with Solution Focused and Narrative Therapy support.
  • Jeesal Cawston Park incorporates person centred outcome measures alongside HoNOS and other valid instruments. These include measures of personal satisfaction; expectation from their stay in hospital, meaningful engagement in activities and daily living skills, and management of personal care, physical and mental health.

Here at Jeesal Cawston Park we have the privilege of being surrounded by beautiful countryside and have developed horticultural activities including animal husbandry, with sheep, goats, pigs and chickens.

In addition we have vegetable patches, the produce of which is used by the organisation, and we are developing a sensory garden.

Within the grounds of the hospital and set on the edge of the lake, we have a Boat House that provides an idyllic place to rest and relax, whether it's fishing, reading a book from the Boat House library or just taking in the beautiful views.
